About the Neon Night Rider
I get the “no nonsense” ascription more times than I can remember. I’d have to agree with it, so I won’t hide it.
I usually get labeled as a web developer, a skeptic-turned-Christian, and a husband to a wonderful woman. I run a freelance business, bootstrap a startup, and work a contract job, all of these in the web industry. I had no formal training in it other than when I first started building websites in fifth grade (1996) and had to write a series of tutorials for my school on HTML. I’ve only lived in 5 different cities in my lifetime, all in the U.S. The three most noteworthy to me are Poughkeepsie, NY, where I was born and raised, San Antonio, TX, where I grew up and returned to in 2009, and New Orleans, LA, where I had a wonderful experience until I relocated because of Hurricane Katrina. Money has always been hard-earned and not plentiful, so my experience is sometimes limited, but sometimes very grounded.
I’m a big critic. I use social media applications, but sparingly, and I value good content over popularity. Also, I’m probably only a Linux geek. I used Macs in elementary and middle school, but I’m not an Apple fan, and I avoid having a cultic attitude towards new web technologies. I’m not quite a grumpy writer, but not entirely feel-good. The word I guess that fits that characteristic is “rational.”
Much of my writing on this site has centered around development and ideas, whether they’re mine or a critique of someone else’s. Despite being a developer, I end up discussing community and business often. My work experience has come from agencies, and often I write on that experience or from looking for jobs. If you’d like a general overview of what I did at various places or what I’m involved in, I’m available on LinkedIn.
Now, what about the site name?
Well, this was originally a level from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video/arcade game. I changed it to a “superhero” of sorts sort of randomly. I was casually making a character on the Marvel Hero Generator when I decided that I could use that character with my redesign project. And that’s how I ended up with this site.
One promise I made to myself was talk more on gaming on this site, so that will be the one major thing I adhere to. Any other topics that show up because of inspiration. And I’m always inspired!
