More idre.am stuff
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008
Per Kelsey’s request, there will be an upcoming “official” report on idre.am later this week. However, I just wanted to throw out at least one piece of press we’ve been getting since building the project:
- After much waiting, I got to post about it at Poplabs’ Semple Ideas: http://blog.poplabs.com/2008/06/18/idream-at-startup-weekend-san-antonio/
- Laura Lorek’s article on SWSA: http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/stories/MYSA052108.1D.StartupWeekend.2c94120.html
- We’ve pumped up Portland’s SW: http://portland.startupweekend.com/
- Jennifer Navarrete is one of our first fans: http://jennifernavarrete.com/startup-weekend-san-antonio/
More to come… (like, say, my entry in idre.am at Semple Ideas), and finishing up Chapter II later.

And all good things must come to an end… unless it’s a good dream
Sunday, May 18th, 2008
Startup Weekend San Antonio has officially ended, and the 3 companies/teams that formed still remained. It was a phenomenal experience that certainly shows how San Antonio shines, the technology world cooperates, and how good it must be for me to sound enthusiastic. I pretty much exclusively worked on idre.am, where I was in charge of the UI, and, of course, PSD to XHTML/CSS conversion, or, quite simply, the slicing. It was a simple idea, but, as I had guessed from the beginning, a complex process in development. Luckily, my team is strong.
idre.am is a tool that allows users to (briefly) input dreams they may have had, and allows a library of anonymous dreams so that users may recall their old dreams and show friends, who can comment and rate their friend’s dream. Or, they can rate other dreams. idre.am will be implemented as a Facebook application and on Twitter, so if you’re using Twitter, be sure to follow @idreamed, and I’ll let you all know when you can add it to your Facebook.
The idea for idre.am, as it may surprise all of you, actually came from me forgetting a dream immediately after I woke up, getting ready for work. I remember having an argument with a friend over whether or not I don’t dream or that I do (and forget) my dreams. I decided that maybe if I had somewhere I could post my crazy dreams, she could finally see that my dreams are crazy and not very common. Thus, idre.am spent a few weeks circling around in my head until this moment. And I had a team of developers who were enthusiastic about this fun project.
Before I go, however, I would like to thank Jennifer Navarrete for organising SWSA and making this the best first impression I could ever have for a Startup Weekend. I’d also like to thank Erica O’Grady for her help in keeping this interesting and fun, and driving 3 hours to San Antonio and even managing to stay longer than I did (unfortunately, Houston called). Also, none of this would even be possible without the Dream Team, so much thanks goes out to them. And finally, everyone involved in SWSA for making this a great weekend for me, and having a great story (and maybe dream) for the masses.
Also, since I found these URLs, I can link to the other teams: ForceXchange and rentescapes.com. These were additional great ideas (especially the latter, since I know I need a vacations, and the former, because as a member of the Hard Corps, I need some combat gear) that I’d elaborate on if it weren’t 1:20 in the morning, and I didn’t have to go to work in 6 hours.

SWSA: Day 2
Saturday, May 17th, 2008
In a total surprise, my idea was voted for in Startup Weekend San Antonio. We (they moreso than I, probably) are working hard to come up with something we can wrap up this weekend. I’ll give you more as we progress, and pictures later. I apologize for the cellphone-quality pictures. They are, clearly, from my phone.
